Herpes simplex virus – 2 (HSV-2) is the virus most commonly associated with genital herpes. It is an extremely common infection, though is under-diagnosed as many people do not have any signs of infection.
Primary HSV-2 is infection in a patient who has not had prior infection. Common symptoms may include painful ulcers, fevers and swollen glands. Once someone is infected with HSV-2, they can have recurrences with genital ulcers.
There is no cure for herpes. There is treatment available to decrease the occurrence of outbreaks and to decrease the length of outbreaks. There are tests available to determine if you have HSV-2.
The medical professionals at Infectious Disease Physicians, P.A. offer counseling and testing for HSV-2. Please call for an appointment if you have questions regarding HSV-2 or any other sexually transmitted infections.
